Municipalities and Red Flag Laws:

• Courtney will delve into one of the Red Flag measures which authorizes civil courts to issue temporary Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), which legally prevent persons deemed at risk of harming themselves or others from possessing or purchasing firearms.
  • She will talk about ERPOs including how they are filed, how they are enforced and what the legal consequences are for noncompliance.
• How can an attorney help municipalities navigate the updated state and federal laws including gun registrations and pistol purchase permits?

Michigan's Firearm Acts:

• Rob will briefly address some of the Public Acts that concern businesses including:
  • Storage when minors are on premises - owner can be charged with a misdemeanor if a child gets the firearm and engages in certain conduct.
  • Safe storage device costs - lowering costs of storage devices including gun safes, cases, lockboxes, etc. 
  • Background checks
