When There Are 2.52?
Foster Swift business attorneys Lindsey Mead and Olivia Reid published the article "When There Are 2.52?" in the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) Journal.
This article examines the persistent gender inequality in the legal profession, despite women now making up a majority of law students nationwide. In 2023, only 37.8% of Michigan attorneys were women, and nationally women accounted for about 41% of attorneys, even though they represented 56.2% of law students in 2024.
The article references Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s famous phrase “When there are nine” to underscore the disparity, based on current leadership numbers, women would hold only 2.52 out of nine top leadership positions.
