Foster Swift Expands Healthcare Practice with Addition of Thomas Huyck

Huyck to the firm’s Holland office.

Huyck brings 25 years of experience advising health systems, physician groups, and hospital networks. His arrival marks a strategic expansion of Foster Swift’s health care and business law capabilities in West Michigan. Drawing on extensive experience as both outside and in-house counsel to diverse healthcare organizations, Huyck excels at guiding clients through the intricacies of complex federal and state regulatory frameworks as well as handling merger and acquisition (M & A) transactions.

His dual perspective enables him to anticipate challenges, implement effective compliance strategies, and deliver practical solutions that address both legal requirements and operational realities. Representative matters Huyck regularly handles include:

  • Providing general counsel in various federal/state regulatory issues including Stark, Anti-kickback, FCA, EMTALA and HIPAA.
  • Negotiating and drafting key legal instruments such as vendor contracts, lease agreements, and employment contracts.
  • Handling M&A transactions for physician practices and hospital systems.
  • Collaborating with HR teams on sensitive employment issues including terminations, investigations, policies, and EEOC complaints.
  • Risk analysis of possible Qui Tam actions.

Licensed to practice in Michigan, Georgia and North Carolina, Huyck received his BA from Mercer University, his master’s in public administration from Valdosta State University and then his JD from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law.
