Overview
Xavier Prather practices in the Grand Rapids office of Foster Swift as a member of the family law practice group. In the arena of family law, he provides counsel to clients regarding divorce, custody, prenuptial agreements and other related matters. Having lived through divorce as a child, he has a unique empathy for his clients and their children.
His previous experience also includes matters in the areas of data privacy and cybersecurity, entertainment and sports law, advising entertainment industry professionals and businesses on varying talent agreements. Xavier is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin and Michigan and had founded his own law practice prior to joining Foster Swift in January 2026.
Xavier always had a passion for sports, signing a national letter of intent to play basketball at Spring Arbor University (SAU). He had a successful career at SAU, being named a two-time captain of the men's team.
He received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Spring Arbor University where he majored in criminal justice with a minor in pre-law. Later on, he received his Juris Doctor (JD) from Marquette University Law School, where he received numerous awards for his pro bono work in the local community, served as Articles Editor of the Marquette Sports Law Review, and became certified in Sports Law.
Outside of his practice, he is a member of the Family Law Board for the Grand Rapids Bar Association and the Kent County Domestic Mediator Roster.
