Overview
Megan Cochrane is a paralegal with Foster Swift’s Business and Tax practice group, where she plays an integral role in supporting attorneys and clients across a broad spectrum of legal matters, including but not limited to matters in mergers and acquisitions, business contracts, for-profit and non-profit formations, real estate acquisitions, dispositions and financing transactions, business planning strategies, and state and local licensing requirements.
In addition to business and real estate, Megan has a particular expertise and interest in health care law transactions, where she assists attorneys with the purchase and sale of dental practices. Her familiarity with nuances of dental practice transactions allows her to support attorneys as they guide their clients through the process efficiently, ensuring compliance with industry standards and mitigating risks. Megan’s collaboration with attorneys helps facilitate efficient, successful transitions for both buyers and sellers in the dental field.
Megan’s background also extends to estate planning and alternative dispute resolution. Beginning her legal career in trusts and estates, Megan has many years of experience assisting attorneys with drafting trusts, wills and powers of attorney. From there and before settling into Business and Tax, Megan ventured into assisting attorneys with alternative dispute resolution, including but not limited to matters involving medical malpractice/wrongful death, no-fault, probate matters, and employment discrimination.
In (2016), Megan received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Central Michigan University. Megan believes that earning this degree helped provide her with a strong foundation in critical thinking, research and analytical skills, which are essential for the complex tasks that paralegals handle on a daily basis.
Currently, Megan is a council member and Chair for the Paralegal/Legal Assistant section of the State Bar of Michigan. She is also the Co-Chair for the Ingham County Bar Association Paralegal/Legal Assistant section. Megan is convinced that involvement in these sections plays a vital role in connecting legal professionals within the industry, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. By organizing networking events, continuing education programs, and professional development opportunities, these sections ensure that paralegals, legal assistants, and other legal professionals can share knowledge, resources, and best practices.
Furthermore, these sections advocate for the recognition and advancement of paralegals and legal assistants, highlighting their indispensable contributions to the legal field. Through these efforts, these sections not only enhance the professional growth of their members but also strengthen the overall quality and efficiency of legal services provided to clients.
