Overview

Joseph Giacalone is a civil litigator with the Southfield office of Foster Swift. His experience includes:

  • First-party, No-Fault automobile negligence
  • Premises and products liability
  • General negligence
  • Insurance coverage
  • Breach of contract
  • Municipal litigation
  • Workers' Compensation and employment litigation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. § 1983 actions, the Elliot Larsen Civil Rights Act, the Michigan Whistleblower’s Protection Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and other various areas under state and federal law.

Admitted to practice before all courts in Michigan, including the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts, in addition to his civil practice, he previously served as an assistant city attorney and defense attorney for multiple Oakland County cities.

While attending Michigan State University's College of Law, he completed his trial practice certificate through the Geoffrey N. Feiger Trial Practice Institute where he completed mock civil and criminal trials as part of the program before graduating. Prior to that, he attended Kalamazoo College, receiving a dual B.A. in Economics and Political Science and was a four-year varsity student-athlete for the Kalamazoo College Baseball Team.

Outside of his practice, Joseph is actively involved in community service efforts for Knights of Columbus for which he serves as the elected Council Advocate and as the Secretary of the Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory Alumni Association, an alumni representative of the Kalamazoo College Baseball team, a youth baseball coach, and a men’s league baseball and hockey player.
