Overview

Jeffrey Theuer has extensive experience in complex litigation and business matters, with particular emphasis on energy and environment, construction, labor, employment, intellectual property and business law. 

Energy

  • Handled bid protests and licensing issues before federal, state and local government entities.
  • Represented large energy companies and utilities in mass multi-jurisdictional contract and tort matters.

Business law

  • Assisted associations, businesses, non-profits, and self-insured funds with commercial contract and governance issues, and general corporate matters.
  • Reviewed and drafted licensing, royalty, and intellectual property agreements, and manages a portfolio of trademarks.
  • Involved in assisting construction associations and contractors in all aspects of their businesses.

Employment Law

  • Assisted clients in Department of Labor audits and litigation, and in labor disputes before the National Labor Relations Board.
  • Represents school administrators in contract negotiations and dispute resolution.

Jeffrey stays active in the mid-Michigan community. In 2017, he was appointed to the Meridian Township Brownfield Review Authority where he served as Chair from 2020-2022, and currently serves as its Vice Chair. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. He previously served on the Okemos Public Schools Board of Education from 2004 – 2012 (President, 2007-09), and is a former Member and Chair of the Planning Commission for the City of Portland, Michigan.

Jeffrey graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky's College of Law, where he was Associate Editor of the Kentucky Law Journal. He returned to Lansing in 1993 after practicing in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1995, he earned a Master of Law degree from George Washington University.

Experience

Representative Matters

  • Successfully represented a public utility in litigation before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington D.C. involving the Department of Energy’s breach of its contract to dispose of spent nuclear fuel, which resulted in a settlement in excess of $100 million after 9 years of litigation.
