Sanders Named to 2020 “Leaders in the Law"

Workers' Comp AttorneyLANSING, Mich. –Foster Swift workers’ compensation attorney and immediate past president Michael D. Sanders, has been selected to the “Leaders in the Law” Class of 2020 by Michigan Lawyers Weekly (MiLW).

The 30 honorees from this year’s “Leaders in the Law” class are nominated for their outstanding contributions to the practice of law in Michigan while setting an example for other lawyers and have demonstrated tremendous leadership.

In addition to his legal practice, Sanders served as the president of Foster Swift from 1999-2002 and then again for three consecutive terms from 2011-2020. In that time, he was known for his leadership and commitment to the mentoring of young attorneys. During his presidency, he fostered a positive work environment at the firm which led to policies promoting diversity and inclusion.

Sanders is a respected workers’ compensation attorney, frequently speaking and writing on the topic. He has devoted his practice to the representation of employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in workers' compensation matters throughout the state of Michigan.

He is also an adjunct faculty member at Michigan State University’s School of Human Resources and Labor Relations. In 2018, Mike was recognized by the Ingham County Bar Association for his civility in practice, receiving the Theodore W. Swift Civility Award.

This year’s class of nominees will be honored on Thursday, April 9 at the MiLW annual luncheon and awards ceremony at the Detroit Marriott in Troy, Michigan.
