Estate Planning: Answers to Essential Questions

Estate Planning CoverGrand Rapids, Mich. – Engaging in estate planning is an important but sometimes emotional process and always generates many questions such as:  What happens if I become disabled and can no longer act for myself? Who will take care of my pet after I'm gone? How do I pass my business on to my children? What is probate?

Released in 2018 and updated in 2021, attorney Jonathan David’s e-book, “Estate Planning: You Have to Start in Order to Finish” helps address these questions and more. While “end of life” issues are never an easy subject to discuss, Jonathan’s book explains why having a comprehensive estate plan is so important, why it should be prepared with assistance from experienced legal counsel and that engaging in an online “do it yourself estate plan” is a mistake and a recipe for disaster.

Readers will find definitions to common terms along with guidance for often-asked estate planning questions such as:

  • Does having a will help me avoid probate?
  • What documents make up a typical estate plan?
  • What happens if I die without a will?
  • Can I name a caregiver for my pet?

This free e-book is available for download and can be found on the firm’s Elder Law Blog at mielderlawblog.com and the pet trusts page at fosterswift.com/f-pet-trusts-estate-planning.html.

Jonathan is an estate planning attorney with Foster Swift, practicing in the firm’s Grand Rapids office. He has extensive experience preparing a wide variety of lifetime and estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, durable powers of attorney for both financial and health care matters and living wills.
