Beyond Innovation: Legal Ethics and the Boundaries of AI Use
Attorney Lindsey Mead is a panelist at the From Policy to Practice: Navigating AI in the Legal Profession Symposium, presented by the University of Detroit Mercy Law Review.
The accelerating use of artificial intelligence (“AI”) in the legal profession poses a dual challenge: while AI offers potential efficiencies in research, drafting, and client communications, it also introduces new risks and ethical dilemmas for attorneys. Lawyers must reconcile the profession’s enduring values with the uncertain role of emerging technologies, particularly when representing clients who are themselves skeptical of, or even harmed by, AI adoption.
This presentation examines how Michigan-based attorneys must navigate these tensions under the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct (“MRPC”).
