Ryan Mills is a member of the Trusts and Estates group and focuses his practice on estate planning, trust and estate administration, and trust and estate litigation. Ryan first came to the firm as a summer associate and returned after law school. 

During his time in law school, Ryan was a federal judicial extern for the Honorable Michael M. Mihm in the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois. While there he participated in comprehensive trial advocacy training conducted by Judge Mihm. Ryan also worked as a teaching assistant for legal writing and appellate advocacy courses, interned with the Chief Counsel of the Illinois State Senate, and served as a student attorney with the Elder Financial Justice Clinic where he represented elderly victims of financial fraud and abuse.

Prior to law school, Ryan worked as a trademark paralegal for an intellectual property firm in Chicago.  He has also held positions with non-profits and served as a University of Chicago Metcalf Fellow at the Office of Federal Relations in Washington, D.C. Most recently, Ryan worked as an adjunct instructor at the University of Illinois College of Law where he taught a 2-credit summer course for incoming LL.M. students on the topics of legal reasoning, writing, and analysis.

Originally from West Michigan, Ryan received his Bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Chicago. Ryan then received his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he was a member of the University's Law Review, the Dean's List and won the CALI Award for highest overall grade in Legal Writing and Analysis. He also was an ABA Client Counseling Competition Finalist, the recipient of a Public Interest Law Foundation Grant, a law school merit scholarship, and the Robert E. & Jane C. Ferris Scholarship awarded for his interest in the study of preserving property rights.
