Matthew Murray is an attorney with the litigation practice group in the Southfield office of Foster Swift where he represents and advocates for his clients in the areas of:

  • Premises liability
  • No-Fault
  • Insurance defense
  • Criminal law
  • Mass Tort
  • Administrative Law
  • Appellate Law
  • Real Estate Litigation

Matthew's legal acumen is evident in his extensive experience across both state and federal court systems. He's not just familiar with the law; he's actively shaped outcomes. For example, he successfully led efforts to reduce federal sentences by effectively applying a new Federal Sentencing Guideline, directly impacting his clients' lives. His hands-on experience also includes a month-long criminal trial, demonstrating his readiness and capability to navigate high-stakes legal battles.

Matthew possesses a rare talent for distilling complex legal issues into clear, compelling, and informative briefs. This precision and attention to detail ensure that the nuances of your case are articulated effectively to judges and juries. But his commitment extends beyond the courtroom; Matthew is equally dedicated to proactively helping clients avoid potential litigation altogether. He understands that preventing legal challenges can often be the best defense, saving clients time, stress, and resources.

Matthew’s passion for the legal field is further exemplified by his service on the Board of the Federalist Society, Michigan Lawyers Chapter. This affiliation highlights his engagement with legal discourse and his dedication to staying informed about the evolving legal landscape.

Matthew interned with the State of Michigan Governor’s Office of Urban and Metropolitan Initiatives while he pursued a B.A. in Political Science at Michigan State University.

Matthew further honed his legal understanding while pursuing his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. During this time, he gained invaluable, firsthand insights into the intricacies of criminal and civil matters as a judicial extern to the Honorable Judge Sean F. Cox at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. This direct exposure to the judicial process equipped him with a profound understanding of how courts operate, approach complex matters, and how to master the art of oral arguments.
