Overview

James “Jim” Ryan is an associate litigator in the Southfield office as a member of the litigation practice group. His practice areas are focused in:

  • General and commercial litigation
  • Drafting and reviewing business contracts
  • Conducting due diligence such as reviewing corporate records, contracts, financial statements, litigation history and regulatory compliance matter to identify potential liabilities or risks that may affect the transaction.
  • Advising on corporate governance and regulatory compliance
  • Insurance law and defense, such as those involving the Michigan Assigned Claims Plan (MACP)
  • Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Benefits
  • No-fault litigation

"I was initially attracted to a career in the legal industry as a result of growing up in a family of attorneys. Particularly, my grandfather, Judge James L. Ryan, is my hero; I’ve always admired his ability to parse the details of complex problems to resolve issues." said Jim. "As I begin my career at Foster Swift, I strive to bring a similar attention to detail and passion for the law in assisting the clients of the Firm."

Jim received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School where he graduated with Honors in the Business Law Concentration. While in law school, Jim was a Judicial Extern at the Wisconsin Supreme Court for Justice Bradley.
