International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) & Export Control Training in Northern Michigan

LANSING, Mich. – The Northwest Michigan Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) and the Global Trade Alliance of Northern Michigan will host a training seminar on ITAR and Export Controls to meet the growing trend towards exporting in Northern Michigan.   Seminar presenters include Foster Swift Attorney Jean Schtokal as well as FBI Supervisory Special Agent Roberta L. Gilligan on April 16, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The seminar will be held at the Lakeshore Center Community Room in Houghton, Mich.   This same seminar is being held in Traverse City at Michigan Works on April 14, 2015.

At this seminar, participants will learn about:

  • Types of export controls
  • Classifying your product/technology/service
  • ITAR compliance
  • Identifying who must register with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls
  • ITAR registration requirements and pointers
  • Role of Empowered Officials
  • Importance of training and recordkeeping
  • Safekeeping company information and minimizing security risks
  • Costs and consequences (civil and criminal)
  • What to do if you think you may have violated ITAR regulations
  • Recent Export Control Reforms and what to do to stay informed
