45 Michigan Counties Designated By USDA As Primary Natural Disaster Areas

The USDA designated 45 Michigan Counties as natural disaster areas for three separate disaster conditions that occurred in 2011.  This designation makes qualified farm operators eligible for several assistance programs, including low interest emergency loans from USDA's Farm Service Agency.

For losses due to the combined effects of excessive rain, high winds, hail, freeze, frost, blizzard, tornadoes, flooding and lightning that occurred from February 1, 2011 (and continues): Alcona, Allegan, Alpena, Benzie, Berrien, Cass, Chippewa, Clare, Gladwin, Grand Traverse, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Manistee, Monroe, Montmorency, Muskegon, Newago, Oakland, Ontonagon, Ottawa, St. Clair, Van Buren.

The following counties also qualify because they are contiguous: Antrim, Arenac, Barry, Bay, Branch, Calhoun, Cheboygan, Clinton, Crawford, Eaton, Genesee, Gogebic, Houghton, Ionia, Iosco, Iron, Isabella, Kalkaska, Lake, Leelanau, Luce, Mackinac, Mason, Mecosta, Midland, Missaukee, Montcalm, Oceana, Ogemaw, Oseola, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle, Roscommon, St. Joseph, Sanilac, Shiawassee, Tuscola, Washtenaw, Wayne, Wexford.

For losses due to drought and excessive heat that occurred from May 15, 2011 (and continues): Dickinson, Iron, Luce, Mackinac, Menominee, Montcalm.

The following counties also qualify because they are contiguous: Alger, Baraga, Chippewa, Clinton, Delta, Gogebic, Gratiot, Houghton, Ionia, Isabella, Kent, Marquette, Mecosta, Newago, Ontonagon, Schoolcraft.

For losses due to the combined effects of excessive rain, high winds, hail, freeze, frost, blizzard, tornadoes, flooding, lightning, drought and excessive heat that occurred from February 1, 2011 (and continues): Alger, Antrim, Delta, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Marquette, Otsego, Schoolcraft, Washtenaw, Wayne. 

The following counties also qualify because they are contiguous: Baraga, Benzie, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Dickinson, Grand Traverse, Iron, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Luce, Mackinac, Macomb, Menominee, Missaukee, Monroe, Montmorency, Oakland, Oscoda, Roscommon, Wexford.
