New liquor sale rules went in effect recently. In late November, Governor Granholm approved of HB 6224 making it law. HB 6224 (now called Public Act 213 of 2010) changes the rules on selling liquor. The new law was similar to the one that Governor Granholm vetoed last month, but was tweaked in a way that the Governor was open to signing it. Highlights of the new law are as follows:

  • The new law allows for Sunday liquor sales between 7 a.m. and noon upon applying for and paying a $160 license fee -- but the local municipality may still ban Sunday liquor sales by resolution or ordinance.
  • The new law sets a limited number of liquor licenses for retirement centers.
